Introduction

Developing Rigorous Integrated Visual and Performing Arts Education for Arts Resurgence and Teacher Sustainability is a project led by Twin Rivers USD (TRUSD) in conjunction with neighboring districts, Sacramento City USD and San Juan USD. Twin Rivers was the leading LEA with the most participants. The district used this project along with additional initiatives to create one of the strongest district wide programs in the arts in the state, says Kris Alexander, The California Arts Project (TCAP). This transformation was fueled by the professional development funded through the project along with partnerships with the Kennedy Center, Mondavi Center, and the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission and the support of district administration and the school board. The project focused on the professional development for the following groups:
  • Multiple Subject Teachers
  • Single Subject Visual and Performing Arts Teachers
  • Administrators
  • Artists in Residence
