The S.M.A.R.T. Project is a continuation of the work accomplished by the Sacramento County Office of Education’s Arts in Education Model Development and Dissemination Grant Program. The original grant work by Sacramento County encompassed three districts. As part of the dissemination, Twin Rivers applied and received from the Federal Department of Education an A.E.M.D.D. grant to continue the work of Arts Integration. During the 2010-2011 planning year teams of teachers, both single subject and multiple subject teachers, collaborated to begin creating lessons for each of the four visual and performing arts disciplines to integrate with the Houghton Mifflin curriculum. In the 2011-2012 year, lessons were demonstrated to teachers and piloted with students for Theme Two. With the adoption of Treasures, a cadre of teachers revised, adapted, and created new lessons of study for Theme Two and Theme Five of Treasures MacMillan/McGraw Hill.
